The TreeHouse Gallery

The TreeHouse Gallery

Taking root in London’s Reagents Park, the TreeHouse Gallery is a collaborative project running from the 20th of July to the 6th of September. Made up of many tree houses suspended from tree within the park solely by wires, the overall project aims to ‘act as a catalyst to ignite the collective imagination, encouraging adults and children alike to explore a variety of creative responses to nature’. Currently the site is composed of a library containing a selection of blind reads, a pagoda, a deck for relaxing and random activities such as a plethora of musical instruments and a selection of workshops being held outside by a variety of artists.

Having visited the site, I can say that it is both an unusual and beautiful creation as well as a feat of engineering to keep the treehouses suspended all of which makes it deserving of a visit; and luckily it is still to run for over a month and might develop further, though I am not sure about this.

We Choose The Moon

We Choose Thee Moon

An ambitious and impressive idea beautifully executed, We Choose The Moon is a celebration, in Flash, of the 40th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landings, recreating the Apollo’s journey in full 3D and real-time wonder. As the original run through of the journey has finished, it is now possible to experience the moon landing at a your own pace, from the Apollo’s launch to Neil Armstrong’s first step on the Moon with the actual recordings from the time running in the background.

Rosemarie Fiore – Pyrotechnics

Rosemarie Fiore

Pyrotechnics is a project by Rosemarie Fiore which exhibits the potential of fireworks as painting implements as well as what seems like a bit of fun. To create these ingenious firework drawings, Rosemarie Fiore sticks fireworks to a long pole and lets them off, which in turn gives a burst of saturated colour which she then pieces together to create abstract collages.

Glyphish

Glyphish

Happened upon a few months ago during some aimless websurfing, Glyphish is a nice find which allows anyone to design an app UI for Apple’s behemoth that is the iPhone as well as the currently low-key Macs. Hopefully the project will soon develop further after its’ successful fund-raising attempts.

Bitalizer

Bitalizer

The picture above may look like a space nebula but actually it’s a visualization by a program called Bitalizer which was authored by Brian Reavis. Using some incredible coding genius, Bitalizer creates visualization of all the millions of little 1’s and 0’s that make up a program, image or any computer file, with every line, kink, node and colour representing a different characteristic within the code such as a 1 bending the line down and a 0 bending the line down. As a nice little bonus, the website lets you upload files to be interpreted and visualized and you can rummage through others’ visualizations.

There is a video of Bitalizer at work after the break.

BBC Blast Studio

BBC Blast Studio

An experiment organized by the BBC, Blast Studio is composed of 4 different interactive art pieces which the public can control from their home computers. These experiments include a keyboard-controlled set of multicoloured neon lights, as well as an automatic paint gun controlled via webcam. A wierd new experience.

Note that you will probably want broadband when viewing the site as it is very video intensive and may lag if you have a slower internet connections. Also you can only interact with the pieces between 12pm and 12am.

Kacie Kinzer – Tweenbots

Kacie Kinzer | Tweenbots

Tweenbot, a happy little cardboard robot, was set lose in Washington Square Park to try and traverse from one corner to the other with the help of the masses. The little guy is the creation of Tisch School of Arts student Kacie Kinzer who is conducting an experiment to see our willingness to interact with things within a space with us. In her own words:

“In New York, we are very occupied with getting from one place to another. I wondered: could a human-like object traverse sidewalks and streets along with us, and in so doing, create a narrative about our relationship to space and our willingness to interact with what we find in it? More importantly, how could our actions be seen within a larger context of human connection that emerges from the complexity of the city itself? To answer these questions, I built robots.”

Just have to love how “one man turned the robot back in the direction from which it had just come, saying out loud to the Tweenbot, ‘You can’t go that way, it’s toward the road.’”

More robots coming soon.

Tone Matrix

Tone Matrix

Nice, and massively addictive, sinewave synthesizer for making repeating tunes out of art which has a Tenori-On aesthetic to it while, at the same time, costing much less.

Something for those rainy days or anytime you don’t mind being glued to a computer for a long time.
