James Reynolds

James Reynolds - The Elastic Band

The Elastic Band, a project by James Reynolds, is a nice combination of audience interaction, music and graphic design. The project, composed of elasticbands stretched over sets of pins, produces tunes from the likes of Michael Jackson and M C Hammer when the sides of the shapes are plucked in the order shown.

The TreeHouse Gallery

The TreeHouse Gallery

Taking root in London’s Reagents Park, the TreeHouse Gallery is a collaborative project running from the 20th of July to the 6th of September. Made up of many tree houses suspended from tree within the park solely by wires, the overall project aims to ‘act as a catalyst to ignite the collective imagination, encouraging adults and children alike to explore a variety of creative responses to nature’. Currently the site is composed of a library containing a selection of blind reads, a pagoda, a deck for relaxing and random activities such as a plethora of musical instruments and a selection of workshops being held outside by a variety of artists.

Having visited the site, I can say that it is both an unusual and beautiful creation as well as a feat of engineering to keep the treehouses suspended all of which makes it deserving of a visit; and luckily it is still to run for over a month and might develop further, though I am not sure about this.

Yoshitomo Nara

Yoshitomo Nara

Beautiful work from prominent Japanese contemporary pop artist Yoshitomo Nara. Unusual, twisted and oft weapon-toting characters, who at first glance can seem simple but shouldn’t be so easily dismissed.

We Choose The Moon

We Choose Thee Moon

An ambitious and impressive idea beautifully executed, We Choose The Moon is a celebration, in Flash, of the 40th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landings, recreating the Apollo’s journey in full 3D and real-time wonder. As the original run through of the journey has finished, it is now possible to experience the moon landing at a your own pace, from the Apollo’s launch to Neil Armstrong’s first step on the Moon with the actual recordings from the time running in the background.

iQ Font

Two typographers, Pierre & Damien, and a pro race pilot, Stef van Campenhoud, collaborated to design a font with a car. Incredible maneuvering and some coloured dot tracking lead to the final product which I have to admit is impressive and can be downloaded from the website. Incomparably in terms of originality for car advertising campaigns though this may be because it is the only font-based campaign for a car I have seen so far.

Supernova

Though I’m not a real fan of the song, I thought that this video for the song Supernova was at least worth a post cause its been created by the ever talented Siggi Eggertson. Enjoy the colours.

White Box – Makoto Yabuki

Nice bit of animation from Makoto Yabuki especially with the perfectly chosen music, though I’m not sure whether it was composed by him specifically for the video or not. Simple yet sweet.

Kirsty Hole – Update

Kirsty Hole

Having just graduated from Brighton Uni and so taken part in GDI ’09, it makes sense that graphic designer Kirsty Hole has updated her website drastically with a completely new and ravashing design as well as nice new content from the areas of photography and graphic design including a nostalgic, rustic set of photos from a laundrette (shown).
